Con Cora Drives the Reconstruction of the Santa Fe de Icotea Educational Institution in Bolívar

September 12, 2025 | Bolívar, Colombia

After three years of joint work with the community and women leaders of the Paso del Medio village, located in Bolívar, on Colombia’s northern coast, the Con Cora Foundation announces the beginning of a new chapter: the reconstruction of the Santa Fe de Icotea Educational Institution.

This project was born from the collective dream of a community that, through dedication and perseverance, has laid the foundation for transforming its future through education. Today, that dream begins to take shape through a comprehensive commitment to dignified, safe spaces designed for learning.

The intervention includes the full renovation of the institution, encompassing adequate perimeter fencing for student safety, sanitation and hygiene improvements, and the construction of new spaces to foster the holistic development of children. Among the new infrastructure features are a multi-purpose court for recreational activities, upgraded sports facilities, proper sanitary installations, and new classrooms dedicated to technology-based learning and preschool education.

This project is developed with the support of UNICEF and Dr. Simi, and is backed by the Gobernación de Bolívar and the Alcaldía de María La Baja, who contribute to strengthening connectivity, transportation, and nutrition as part of the creation of a full school day and secondary education program — joining efforts to ensure access to quality education in the region.

More than a physical reconstruction, this project represents a commitment to social transformation through education, standing alongside a community that has rebuilt itself with resilience and hope.
